I recently had a great chat with Elspeth at A2X on the reasons that I love to work with e-commerce business owners... I thought you might like to see my thoughts...
Working with e-commerce business owners is fantastic – they are typically tech savvy and
appreciate the benefits from advance software. Adopting new processes is often pretty smooth sailing as they are forward thinking and able to adapt. I love diving deep into their businesses to find out what makes it tick, plus where it could be more efficient. I genuinely care about them succeeding and I’ve found it helps to draw out their goals and motives, so that the bookkeeping serves them.
The e-commerce world is rapidly growing, but many business owners need help to clearly see their profitability, especially with marketing spend. The techie side of this industry is incredible and it’s never boring due to fast-paced changes. Using tools like A2X and Xero, which integrate smoothly with Shopify and TikTok Shop, helps to provide almost real-time financial insights which is critical for better decision making.
Clients often tell me, "I can clearly see what needs doing" and "it's nice not to have hundreds of unreconciled transactions".
Once they see what is possible for quick data capture, they are brilliant at getting documents sent in because they know why it’s important.
One client was struggling to know if her business was profitable; after we cleaned everything up and mapped out her business she could clearly see that the "profitability” stated at supplier level was nowhere near actual profitability once everything was fully considered. She decided to close this business. It might sound like a bad outcome, but I see it as a win—she made an informed decision for her future.
It is very rewarding to see the positive impact on my clients’ businesses and to be a part of their success stories.
