From Nerves to Networking Gold: Why I Keep Coming Back to the Last Friday Club at Rume2

I remember walking into my first Last Friday Club, at Rume2, back in January... a little nervous, clutching my mug and wondering whether I’d made a huge introvert mistake. I’d been meaning to check it out for a while, but showing up solo to a networking event isn’t always easy.
Spoiler alert: it was one of the best decisions I’ve made this year.
A Monthly Gathering With a Difference
Hosted by The Chichester Social, the Last Friday Club brings together local business owners, freelancers, creatives and professionals on (you guessed it) the last Friday of every month.
The vibe is relaxed but purposeful... no pressure, no awkward intros, just great conversations and genuine connections.
What makes it unique is the structure: a short talk or panel discussion on a relevant topic, followed by the famous “7-word pitch” - your chance to introduce yourself, but with a twist.
It’s a surprisingly fun challenge to distil what you do into just seven words. It does get easier the more you go!
Some of the 7-word pitches I played with:
"Turning chaos into clarity with ethical bookkeeping"
"Helping founders feel financially calm and clear"
"Making Tax Digital? Sorted with smart bookkeeping"
"Numbers, systems, help you sleep at night"
"Bookkeeping that actually helps you grow"
"Digital bookkeeping helps you make informed decisions"
"Modern bookkeeping, real-time data, smarter decisions"
Hearing others share theirs is equally inspiring. You walk away remembering people because they’re not reading a script, they’re showing up as themselves.
Monkey, Bananas, Biscuits = MTD

By March, I found myself up the front giving a talk about Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. Not exactly a show-stopper… until you throw in a toy monkey, three bananas, and biscuits!
The group was brilliant... curious, encouraging, and totally up for engaging with a topic that could easily feel dry. I was able to help the group to understand what it was, when it was coming and whether it would affect them. That morning reminded me just how powerful community spaces can be when they’re run with heart.
Why Rume2 Works
The magic of Last Friday Club wouldn’t be possible without Rume2 - a beautiful coworking and small office space in the heart of Chichester. Their tagline, "Work Your Way", really does ring true. Whether you need a hot desk for the day, a quiet corner to focus, or a private office to grow your team, there’s something here for every stage of business.
You’ll also find:
Superfast WiFi
Private meeting rooms
Excellent coffee
A warm, welcoming team
A space designed to make work feel good
I’ve used the space for focused solo work, recorded calls and client catch-ups. Each time I’ve left feeling energised and supported.
Why You Should Come Too
If you’re a freelancer, business owner, or remote worker near Chichester, and you’re looking for more connection, support or simply a fresh place to get stuff done — come to the next Last Friday Club.
It’s free to attend, open to all, and might just be the nudge you need.
I came for the coffee and curiosity. I stayed for the people. And I’ll keep coming back for the magic.
