Stop guessing your mileage! It adds up fast

Mileage is one of those business expenses that is easy to forget about.

A client meeting here, a networking event there, a trip to pick up supplies… each journey might seem small, but over the year it can add up surprisingly quickly.

The key thing to remember is: you cannot just guess your mileage at the end of the year.

You need to keep a record of your business journeys, including:

• Date of the journey

• Where you travelled from and to

• Business reason for the trip

• Number of miles travelled

There are mileage logging apps out there, and many bookkeeping platforms have this built in. We use the Xero Me app or the FreeAgent app to log mileage directly, which makes it much easier to keep on top of.
